What is Kriptomat?

Kriptomat is an EU-based exchange platform and wallet service that offers an easy route to buying and storing cryptocurrencies. Kriptomat’s mission is to allow everybody seamless access to different tokens with minimal restrictions and to bring crypto to every household. There are over 350 cryptocurrencies to select from and the service is available in 23 languages for residents in over eighty different countries.

Background

Kriptomat was founded in 2018 by Srdjan Mahmutovich. As a tech enthusiast, he built a profitable digital marketing agency with 50 employees and also served as head of web development at a television network called Telemach.

The team behind Kriptomat are tech experts based in Slovenia which is also the home of Bitstamp and a variety of other well-known crypto projects. As big fans and early adopters of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies, they realised there was a need for a service that caters to ordinary people. A service where brand new users can enter the industry in a straightforward and quick way.

How to buy on Kriptomat

Signup

The signup process is painless. Simply visit the homepage and click ‘Get started.’

Then you will be directed to a signup page where you must fill out your basic info and choose a strong password. Click continue and they will send you an email where you can verify your address. Next, you will need to verify your phone number as part of Kriptomat’s security procedures and once that is all done - your account is ready to go.

Of course, you won’t be able to purchase anything without funds so the next step is to load your account and we’re going to go over that quickly now.

Buying with your euro funds

You can pre-fund your account with Euro to make buying cryptocurrencies on Kriptomat an even smoother experience via a SEPA deposit. To do this go, click ‘Deposit’ in the header section and choose ‘Bank transfer / SEPA’. After selecting Kriptomat’s bank account from the dropdown menu, you will see all the necessary payment details and instructions to fund your account. This can take up to three days though so make sure to do this well in advance if you choose this method.

Buying with a credit card

For those who want to make a spontaneous purchase or simply don’t want to wait for the SEPA deposit, Kriptomat also offers credit card deposits for practically instant buys.

Here’s how...

Once you’ve logged into the platform, go to the Buy & Sell tab, where you can select the currency that you wish to buy (for this example, we’ll be buying Bitcoin).

Enter the amount of euro that you would like to spend or the crypto amount that you want to receive. Choose ‘Credit Card’ as the payment method and when you’re ready to buy click on ‘Preview transaction’ to see your transaction summary.

If you wish to proceed, click on ‘Continue to payment’ to confirm the transaction and enter your card details to make the purchase. Your bitcoins will then be deposited to your Bitcoin wallet.

Kriptomat limits and fees

Deposits

As with most European exchanges in Europe, you pay zero fees when adding funds with a SEPA transaction (but it can take a few days) so you can save money from the start by planning ahead and making a SEPA transaction.

The other payment methods aren’t quite as cheap. You pay 3.45% on credit card deposits and up to 5.35% on other payment methods such as Klarna Sofort, Neteller or Skrill.

Withdrawals

You have to pay a little bit for withdrawing your cryptocurrencies from Kriptomat so if you do wish to move your currencies to a private wallet then please familiarise yourself with the withdrawal fees first. For SEPA withdrawals, two euros will always be deducted for the fee, regardless of the total amount. For cryptocurrency withdrawals, there are different fees per currency. For example, there is a fee of 0.0002 BTC when withdrawing Bitcoin but you can find a complete list on the Kriptomat fee page.

Limits

There are some limits and restrictions that you need to consider when trading on Kriptomat so let’s go over the most important ones right here.

The minimum SEPA deposit is €35 and if you are buying or selling cryptocurrencies then you need to trade at least €25.

The send/withdrawal minimum value for cryptocurrencies is set to €15.

There are limits to the amount of currency which can be withdrawn from your account too. For example, you can withdraw up to €1,500,000 daily and up to €10,000,000 on a monthly basis. Find all the limits in the image below or find the updated list here.

Kriptomat mobile app

Of course, no good service is without a good mobile app so if you prefer to use your phone to buy and sell your cryptocurrencies then you can download the Kritpomat app right now. The app has all the main features from the web version and is available on Google Play or the Apple App Store where it has an average rating of 4.5 stars!

Is Kriptomat trustworthy?

Bringing cryptocurrency into every household is a big vision and big visions need to be backed by good practices. Kriptomat has gone out of its way to ensure that all of its operations are legally sound and secure. It is regulated by the government, legally compliant, and fully-licensed in Estonia under E.U. legislation so you can rest assured that you’re dealing with a transparent company.

Is Kriptomat safe?

Kritpomat has gone to great lengths to make sure they are regulatorily in-line so it should come as no surprise that they take big steps to secure their platform and protect their users from threats.

The company constantly keeps 98% of crypto assets on secure cold storage with controlled access and in addition to that - there is dedicated team monitoring all activity on the platform to spot and address any suspicious activity.

Additionally, Kriptomat is ISO 27001:2013 (the current version of ISO 27001) certified, an international standard with a set of requirements for an Information Security Management System (ISMS), recognized for managing risks to the security of information held by an organization.

This is of course on top of standard security procedures such as 2FA and testing their own security systems regularly.

Conclusion

Kriptomat was established a little later than many cryptocurrency exchanges but with one prevailing difference - the company was founded by people who were already well-established professionals in the technology industry. This factor meant the team could launch a platform that works quickly and that they were able to develop and enhance usability in a very short space of time.

The result is a basic, somewhat minimalistic-looking exchange platform for buying and selling cryptocurrencies. In this regard, Kriptomat excels. They have cut off all the unnecessary steps and provided one of the most efficient ways to purchase Bitcoin and over 350 other currencies extremely easily in Europe.

However, nothing is perfect and even though we don’t have many complaints - we do have one point of criticism. Although the SEPA fees are cheap, the fees for other payment methods such as credit card can be considered in the mid-range.

We are okay with this though because taking into consideration the expertise/history of Kriptomat’s team and the lengths they go to when considering security, it’s not hard to understand why it is a bit more expensive.

So if you are looking for an easy to use professional and secure environment and need an easy go-to cryptocurrency seller then Kriptomat should absolutely be on your radar.
